Turkish Citizenship for Iranian Investors: The Regulated Fund Route

For Iranian families living in Iran, the UAE, Europe or North America: how the USD 500,000 fund route works, what Turkish banks will ask for, and what to prepare.

Short answer: An Iranian national can apply for Turkish citizenship by investing at least USD 500,000 in units of a real estate or venture capital investment fund regulated by the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye and holding them for three years. Spouse and children under 18 are included. Turkish banks apply enhanced due diligence to Iranian clients, so a well-documented source of funds and a compliant transfer route are essential.

How the fund route works

You subscribe to units of a CMB-regulated fund through a Turkish bank or brokerage. The CMB issues a conformity letter, and your lawyer files the residence permit and citizenship applications.

No property risk

No title deed problems, inflated prices or resale worries. Units are priced by licensed appraisers and held in your own account.

A regulated manager

FT Portföy is licensed by the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye; the fund's assets sit with an independent custodian.

Exit after three years

Units are redeemed under the fund rules once the holding period ends.

Family included

Spouse and children under 18 apply on the same investment.

What Iranian investors should know

Banking and compliance

Turkish banks apply enhanced checks to Iranian nationals. Funds should be transferred from a bank account outside Iran in your name, with documents showing how the money was earned. Persons on UN, EU, UK, US or Turkish sanctions lists cannot invest.

Residents abroad

Iranians who live in the UAE, Europe or North America usually have the simplest path, as funds and documents come from their country of residence.

Dual nationality

Türkiye allows dual citizenship. Iran does not recognise the loss of Iranian nationality through naturalisation abroad, so you remain an Iranian national under Iranian law.

Documents

Passport, shenasnameh (birth certificate), marriage certificate and children's documents, legalised and translated into Turkish by a sworn translator.

Step by step

  1. Call and compliance pre-check: we review where your funds are held and how they will be transferred before anything else.
  2. Tax number and accounts: your lawyer obtains a Turkish tax number and opens a bank or brokerage account.
  3. Transfer and conversion: USD 500,000 is transferred, converted at a Turkish bank and the fund units are bought.
  4. CMB conformity letter: the CMB confirms the investment and the three-year holding commitment.
  5. Residence permit and citizenship file: your lawyer files the applications; biometrics and interviews follow.
  6. Decision: citizenship is granted by presidential decision, then ID cards and passports are issued.

Frequently asked questions

Can Iranians get Turkish citizenship by investment?

Yes. Iranian nationals are eligible for the USD 500,000 fund route, subject to bank due diligence and sanctions screening.

Can I transfer money from Iran?

Transfers directly from Iran are difficult because of international sanctions. A bank account in your name outside Iran, with documented source of funds, is the practical route.

Do I need to live in Türkiye?

No. There is no minimum stay; you visit for biometrics and your lawyer handles most steps.

Which family members are included?

Your spouse and children under 18.

Will I keep Iranian nationality?

Türkiye allows dual citizenship, and under Iranian law you remain an Iranian national.
